Plant Based Taskforce
Our Mission
The Plant-Based Task Force advocates for public policy that shifts communities toward sustainable lifestyles and a sustainable economy, emphasizing plant-based nutrition and plant-based building materials, in order to optimize personal health, community health, and environmental health, to mitigate climate change, and to reduce animal cruelty.
Our Work
Lobbying for Change
We actively engage with policymakers, advocating for policies that support plant-based initiatives, sustainable agriculture, and kindness.
Current Initiatives
We are working with others to create a plant-based meal option in schools across the islands, much like other states have already done for their keiki. We are also working on advocating for sustainable plant-based building materials.
Public Education
Through legislation at the State level and outreach events, such as tabling events at community Earth Day, Ocean Day, art nights, and other local venues, and online resources, we empower the public to make informed choices. Knowledge is key to creating a better world.
The Taskforce Team
Victoria Anderson, PhD
Victoria Anderson is a former linguistics professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In addition to the Plant-Based Task Force, she is a member of Climate Protectors Hawaii.
Stephanie Skow, MD
Stephanie Skow is a physician, practicing on Kauai since 2009. She advocates for ending the unnecessary harm and suffering of all animals, and educates the public about kind plant based alternatives.
Katherine Skow
Katherine Skow is a retired 5th grade teacher, vegan grandma, and activist, living on beautiful Kauai since 2009.
Ted Bohlen
Ted Bohlen is a former Deputy Attorney General and co-founder of Climate Protectors Hawaii. Ted advocates for stronger environmental laws, including support for plant-based food and building materials.
Helen Cox
Helen Cox is the former Chancellor of Kaua`i Community College and now Chair of Kaua`i Climate Action Coalition. and co-lead of Kaua`i Chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby.
John Kawamoto
John Kawamoto is a retired legislative analyst who advocates for the environment and affordable housing.

Matt Nelson
Matt is a wood artist, handcrafted weapon maker, and owner of Calabash in Kapaa, HawaiÊ»i. A dedicated animal advocate, Matt works to raise awareness about the realities of dairy and animal farming and encourages communities to explore today’s tasty, compassionate plant‑based alternatives. His message is simple: with so many kind choices available, why not choose kindness.
